Twenty five volunteers and ten support members cover this corner of Pulaski County from two stations. Nobody here draws a fire department paycheck. Membership meetings are the 1st and 3rd Tuesday at 7:30 PM.

Back the department
Not everyone can pull a hose at 3 in the morning. There is more than one way a community keeps a volunteer department on the road.
Give directly

Give time
Ten of the members here are support and administrative, not firefighters. Fundraising, records, radios, and equipment upkeep all count.
Make the call easier
Post your 911 address where it can be read from the road at night, and keep the driveway clear enough for an engine. Both shorten a response.
Before you burn
Kentucky sets two fire hazard seasons every year. Most of the brush fires a volunteer department chases start with somebody burning at the wrong hour.
The 150 foot rule
During a hazard season it is unlawful to set fire to anything that can spread within 150 feet of woodland or brushland, except between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM local time, or when the ground is covered with snow. Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet.
A local ban outranks the calendar
A county or city can enact its own burn ban that is stricter than the state seasons, and it can land outside either window. Check locally before you burn, even in July.
Make yourself findable
Reflective 911 numbers at the road, a mailbox that is not buried in brush, and a gate somebody can open. A rural address that cannot be read at night costs minutes that matter.
Who answers
Woodstock is a fully volunteer department in north Pulaski County, with a Eubank mailing address and two stations on the roster.
There is no career shift here and no paid on call roster. Twenty five firefighters and ten support and administrative members carry the whole department, which means every response starts with a pager going off somewhere in somebody's ordinary evening. Leadership is Chief Harvey Hewitt and Assistant Chief Kenneth Proctor.
